Percy French - Mountains of Mourne
William Percy French (1854 – 1920) was an Irish songwriter, author, poet, entertainer and painter from Rosscommon. Known for the Poem "Mountains of Mourne" (click photo for link) Percy was married to Countess Annesley's sister Ettie. The Annesley's lived in Donard Lodge.
Harry Ferguson - Tails of Flight sculpture
Harry Ferguson from Dromore in 1910 was the first person in Ireland to build & fly his own Monoplane. On 8th August 1910, Harry flew for three miles at a height varying between 50 and 150 feet above the beach at Dundrum Bay, landing in front of the Donard Hotel (Main St). Click photo for more info.
Harry built his 1st Tractor between 1931-33 called the Ferguson Black.
Harry invented and patented the three-point hitch system in 1926, allowing tools like a plough to be attached to the tractor and function like a single unit.

Percy Bysshe - Rock Outcrop & Cave
Percy Bysshe is a Rock Outcrop & Cave in the Central Mournes, walking alongside Binnian Mountain and Annalong Wood, towards the Blue Lough. Named after a Poet Percy Bysshe Shelley, local legend suggests he visited the Mournes around 1812.
During WWII this rock outcrop was used for bombing & artillery target practice.

The Mourne Wall
The Mourne Wall; extending for 22 miles across the peaks. Built between 1904 and 1922 by stonemasons using local granite without any mortar. The wall was designed to keep cattle and sheep away from the water supply feeding the Silent Valley Reservoir.
